Safe Fat Burner Foods

Picture
Safe fat burners are foods that burn more calories than the calorie content of the food itself thereby fighting stored fat.   Because you are using grown in the ground food, you are safe from side effects except for the allergic reaction that can be easily dealt with by avoiding the food.  No permanent damage can occur to your physiology.

The secret to losing weight is to eat and drink the right kinds of foods until you are satisfied. If you skip meals it will slow your metabolism and your health will deteriorate. There are certain foods, natural plant foods, actually burn more fat than the calorie content of the food itself.

Following is a list of fat burning foods you can add to your diet:

Fruits rich in vitamin C:

  • limes
  • lemons
  • oranges
  • guava
  • grapefruit
  • blueberries
  • raspberries
  • bilberries
  • strawberries

Vitamin C dilutes fat, makes it less effective and helps to release the fat from the body.

Apples: Pectin in apple restricts the cells that absorb the fat; and also encourages water absorption from the food which helps in releasing the fat deposits from the body. The antioxidants in apples may help prevent metabolic syndrome, a condition marked by excess belly fat or an apple body shape.

If you eat these safe fat burning foods and do some exercise, it will boost your metabolism and burn more fat at a faster rate for several hours even after exercise.

A recent research reports that calcium in dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt act as fat burner that can boost weight loss by increasing fat breakdown in fat cells. Michael Zemel, Professor of Nutrition and Medicine at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville reports (Obesity Research, April 2004; vol 12; pp 582-590.),

"If you compare a dairy-rich versus a dairy-poor diet you can nearly double the rate of weight and fat loss with the same level of calorie restriction." Dairy products may therefore be termed as fat burning foods. His research has shown that eating 3-4 servings of dairy products a day is more effective at enhancing weight loss efforts than calcium supplementation alone. So eat dairy products that act as fat burners.

The University of Tennessee researchers found:

Overweight people who consumed 3 servings a day of calcium-rich dairy lost more belly fat than those who followed a similar diet minus two or more of the dairy servings. The calcium supplements didn't work as well as milk.

Nuts help you feel full while also increasing the body's ability to burn fat, says author Jordi Salas-Salvado of the University of Rovira i Virgili in Reus, Spain.

Chilies: Foods containing chillies or cayenne pepper are considered to be foods that burn fat. Chillies contain capsaicin that helps in increasing the metabolism. Capsaicin is a thermogenic food, so it causes the body to burn extra calories for 20 minutes after you eat the chilies.

Lentils: Lentils are high in protein and soluble fiber, two nutrients that stabilize blood sugar levels, therefore lentils are a great tummy flattener," according to Tanya Zuckerbrot, R.D., author of The F-Factor Diet.

Some of the other safe fat burner foods that may be included in the list of fat burning foods are:

  • asparagus
  • beet root
  • broccoli
  • cabbage
  • carrot
  • chillies
  • soybeans
  • sweet potatoes
  • blueberries
  • watermelon

Note that in order to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume. This can be done by eating fat burning foods and doing some physical activity. This will help your body burn up the stored fat.

Fat Burner Supplements (Not Recommended)

If you are looking for supplements and the magic key to fast weight loss it might be a good time to take stock of that concept.  It really is just a concept, not a proven reality that supplements will help in a significant way.  Following is a list published by the Mayo Clinic:

Bitter orange     Increases the number of calories burned

    * Touted as an "ephedra substitute" but may cause health problems similar to those of ephedra
    * Long-term effects unknown

Chitosan     Blocks the absorption of dietary fat

    * Relatively safe, but unlikely to cause weight loss
    * Can cause constipation, bloating and other gastrointestinal complaints
    * Long-term effects unknown

Chromium     Reduces body fat and builds muscle

    * Relatively safe, but unlikely to cause weight loss
    * Long-term effects unknown

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)     Reduces body fat, decreases appetite and builds muscle

    * Might decrease body fat and increase muscle, but isn't likely to reduce total body weight
    * Can cause diarrhea, indigestion and other gastrointestinal problems

Country mallow (heartleaf)     Decreases appetite and increases the number of calories burned

    * Contains ephedra, which is dangerous
    * Likely unsafe and should be avoided

Ephedra     Decreases appetite

    * Can cause high blood pressure, heart rate irregularities, sleeplessness, seizures, heart attacks, strokes and even death
    * Banned from the marketplace because of safety concerns, but may still be legally sold as a tea
    * Despite the ban, many ephedra products are still sold on the Internet

Green tea extract     Increases calorie and fat metabolism and decreases appetite

    * Limited evidence to support the claim
    * Can cause vomiting, bloating, indigestion and diarrhea
    * May contain a large amount of caffeine

Guar gum     Blocks the absorption of dietary fat and increases the feeling of fullness, which leads to decreased calorie intake

    * Relatively safe, but unlikely to cause weight loss
    * Can cause diarrhea, flatulence and other gastrointestinal problems
    * May cause intestinal obstruction if not taken with enough water

Hoodia     Decreases appetite

    * No conclusive evidence to support the weight loss claims
